Last night 17 Theatre Club members enjoyed a night watching a couple of masters at work in the farce 'The Painkiller' by Francis Veber.
The show lasted 90 minutes (no interval) and we could understand why. The ever increasing pace of the performance would surely render it impossible to return to that level of energy after a break.
Rob Brydon was hilarious as the heartbroken, suicidal photographer who finds himself in a hotel room that has an adjoining door to the room occupied by Branagh's trained assassin. Kenneth Branagh's physical performance was amazing - the way he was able to move and manipulate his body, his face and consequently his voice was incredible. The show was funny, fast, full of mistaken identity and innuendo filled situations - just as a good farce should be.
It was the first social outing into London for a long time but one worth repeating soon. We'll be looking at other shows to offer to our members.
