Welcome to Ashwell Theatre Club’s Summer Newsletter 2011

Hello Everyone,
You may think it is a while since you last heard from the Theatre Club but we are still here! Since the last ATC newsletter, we were lucky to be entertained by a talented cast at our one night only cabaret dinner on Saturday, November 27th ‘Christmas – As seen on TV’. This was a highly entertaining evening, with a number of sketches, interwoven with singing, music and laughter, which started off the 2010 Christmas celebrations of Ashwell folk. The entertainment was followed by a scrumptious, heartwarming three course supper. Well done to all those involved, and especially those who worked behind the scenes to prepare such a tasteful supper.
Our planned Summer Production, the comedy Ladies’ Day was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. However, the good news is that rehearsals have begun again in earnest and the new dates for Ladies’ Day are Friday, October 21st and Saturday, October 22nd. Remember to buy your tickets early as this promises to be a sell-out event. Amanda Whittington’s sporting romp is as much fun as a day at the races and, arguably, better value for money. Although do be aware there is adult content – so it is not suitable for the young ones! Tickets are available at the Ashwell Post Office or by e-mailing tickets@ashwelltheatre.co.uk.
As always our village puts on the spectacular Ashwell Show on August Bank Holiday Monday. As well as being a great fun day out for all ages, the event raises well needed funds for organisations in the village. It is therefore important that members of Ashwell Theatre Club support the event by helping in some way – either by setting up on the Saturday/Sunday, helping on the day – running the car park, on the gate, or by helping clear up afterwards. If we all gave a couple of hours of our time, I am sure that Ashwell Show committee will look at us favourably when the allocation of any funds after the event is made! Please help! If you are able to help, please contact Duncan Wardrop at Duncan@brassknocker.f2s.com (if you haven’t already) – do mention that you are supporting the Theatre Club. If you are unable to help, please go along and support the event by enjoying a great day out.
Please put Thursday, 29th September 2011 at 7:45pm in your diaries as this is when we will hold the 2011 AGM upstairs at the Village Hall.
To end the seasonal celebrations of Ashwell Folk and cheer them as the dark nights of January linger, ATC will be performing Aladdin this festive season. The pantomime will be performed over the weekend of January 28th, 2012. Auditions will be held after our AGM on Thursday, September 29th. There are many parts, and if you don’t feel like being in the spotlight on stage, there are plenty of jobs behind the scenes. Please come along and sign-up – get yourself in the festive mood early!
During the break from productions, our committee has been busy tidying the costume store. This was a mammoth task as all the costumes have now been sorted, clearly labeled, and stored in relevant boxes. Your committee has also busied itself by becoming the organising committee for a couple of key village celebrations. In January we surprised Scotty with a 60th Birthday party and in July many members enjoyed the celebration of Sarah (Butler) and Ben Bartram’s wedding, which had been held in Canada earlier in the month. Although we may not win any Fleet Street prizes for the prompt distribution of our newsletters, we could certainly win awards as great Party Planners!!
As always, as a club we are always keen to swell our numbers. If you know of any budding actors/actresses/directors/set producers/choreographers/jack of all trades who would like to join our hugely successful club, please encourage them to contact us on enquiries@ashwelltheatre.com, or bring them along to the AGM.

Thank you for all of your continued support
Look forward to seeing you at Ladies’ Day and our AGM,
Connie
